Some babies will experience what is called cradle cap. This is basically a dry scalp, you can recognize it because it looks like scales on top of the baby’s head. Not too worry this is extremely common and easy to get rid of. The treatment for Cradle Cap is a comb or brush and baby oil. They make cradle cap combs and brushes, you can find these in your local Babies R Us or drug store. The day that you are washing your child’s hair is the best time to do this.
Lay the baby down on a bed or maybe the changing table. Take the baby oil and apply to the baby’s head and rub it in. Don’t douse the baby’s head, just pour some into your hands and massage it into the baby’s scalp. Then take the comb and gently comb out the scales. Some of it may comb out easy and other parts may take a bit more baby oil. Cover the entire head and then shampoo out. Make sure you shampoo your baby’s head real well.
You may need more than one treatment, eventually your baby will grow out of it. Don’t be alarmed if it lasts a long time. You may notice that in the winter your baby will get it more than the summer and that would be in part of heat drying out the babies skin, try using a humidifier in the babies room, it may help.
