Even babies love to get massages. The theory is that is bonds a mother and her baby, but don’t think if you don’t massage your child that you won’t bond as much as a mother who does massage her newborn. You have to be very careful when massaging a newborn, they are very fragile and they need to be taken care of as such. Never let another child like a brother or sister massage a newborn. They will not recognize their strength and the baby may get hurt.
Place the baby on the bed or on the changing table, take off the clothes except for the diaper. You can use baby lotion with lavender or chamomile, these are two very soothing scents for a baby. Take their feet and gently massage the bottom of their feet, this may also be a tickle spot for them. Then work your way to the legs and gently massage the belly. Don’t press too hard on the belly.
Sit them up and gently massage their back, don’t lie them face down to massage their back. You can do their arms sitting up, gently rub their shoulders, be careful because they may be ticklish there as well. Over all the baby will enjoy their massage especially after bath time and right before bed. They will be nice and relaxed.
