Most people worry because their newborns sleep all the time. There is nothing to worry about, newborns are supposed to sleep, in fact that is really all they do for the first month or so. The trick is to get the baby to sleep during the night. You don’t expect your newborn to sleep the whole night but what would be nice is for the baby to sleep part of the night. Babies generally sleep all day and wake up about every 4 hours to eat.

Some babies at night tend to sleep a little less, they are on a reverse schedule than you until about a month or 6 weeks. You will know it when they do. Most babies will wake up, have their bottle and then go back to sleep other need to be changed after and maybe rocked a bit. Every baby is different so you really can’t compare your experience with another mom’s because they will both be different.

If your baby wakes up regularly for their feeding and they may sleep a bit longer in between the next feedings, don’t feel it is necessary to apply the every 4 hour rule to your baby, it they run over the time for the next feeding, don’t worry they will not starve. Let them sleep and remember while they sleep you can nap of get done anything you want to get done before the baby wakes up.
